Welcome to Price Tutors,

But not you...
because you
are here

My mission is to empower students to unlock their full academic and personal potential through personalized coaching, expert test preparation, and essential life skills development.

I am committed to fostering confidence, resilience, and lifelong learning habits that enable every student to achieve their unique goals and thrive beyond the classroom.

I’m Michael Price, founder and lead tutor at Price Tutors. With over 20 years of experience in test preparation, academic tutoring, and life skills coaching, I’ve helped hundreds of students raise their scores, improve their grades, and gain confidence in their academic journey.

My background is a bit unique—I’m also an independent filmmaker based in Los Angeles, which fuels my creative approach to teaching and problem-solving. I specialize in working with students across a wide range of levels, from young learners just starting out to college students preparing for graduate exams. I take pride in crafting lessons and strategies that fit each student’s pace, style, and goals, ensuring every session is productive and engaging.

Philosophy

At Price Tutors, I specialize in working with high-achieving students who are ready to push beyond their current limits. What sets my approach apart is the personalized attention I give to every detail, from the pace and tone to the structure of each session, ensuring that coaching is tailored precisely to your unique learning style and goals. I believe tutoring should feel collaborative and energizing, not one-size-fits-all or formulaic. Together, we’ll identify what drives you, sharpen your focus, and break down ambitious targets into actionable strategies.

Many families come to me after other programs haven’t helped their students reach the highest levels, whether that means cracking the 95+ percentile, acing challenging AP courses, or boosting scores to open doors to top-tier colleges. I’m known for delivering results where others fall short, guiding high achievers through the final stretch with precision and care to maximize their potential.

Importantly, I balance academic rigor with the well-being of each student. Success is not just about scores or grades; it’s about building lasting skills, confidence, and resilience that support both immediate goals and long-term growth. I work together with my students and their families to make sure we have a program in place that's sustainable for students with even the busiest schedules.

college admissions

Each year, the vast majority of students I work with gain admission to one of their top-choice schools—including some of the most highly competitive colleges and universities across the country. Whether raising test scores, improving GPA, or developing the life skills needed to thrive, I help students build applications that stand out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to see results?

It depends on your goals and the service you’re receiving. For standardized test prep, most students start to see noticeable score improvements after 4-5 sessions, especially with consistent weekly or bi-weekly schedule and targeted practice. Test prep packages typically last 8-16 sessions depending on your goals and starting score.

For academic tutoring, you can expect to see positive results in a similar time frame. The timeline for those sessions can often stretch throughout the semester, though short-term study is always an option.

How often will we meet? and how long are sessions?

For test prep, I recommend 90 minute sessions at least once a week. For students on a shorter timeline, it can make sense to meet twice a week. I’m flexible and will work with you to find the right balance between accountability and autonomy. For academic tutoring, I recommend 60-90 minute sessions depending on the complexity of subject, either once or twice a week, based on your class workload.

How much do sessions cost?

Rates vary depending on the service, but I always offer a free 20-minute phone or Zoom consultation to discuss your goals, recommend a plan, and discuss pricing options. I do offer increasingly reduced hourly rates when you purchase a standard package of 8, 12, or 16 sessions. I also offer sliding scale rates to students who demonstrate financial need via our provided application. Reach out at mike@pricetutors.com or use the Contact form provided here to request up-to-date pricing and availability.

Are sessions online or in-person?

I primarily work with students virtually via Zoom, which allows us to use shared materials, digital whiteboards, and screen sharing. For students local to the Greater Los Angeles area, in-person sessions may be available upon request.

can you tell me more about your experience?

I started working as an SAT and ACT tutor in the mid 2000s and I've never really stopped since then! I've taught my way through 4 different iterations of the SAT and 3 of the ACT. I've been working in the digital SAT format since day one, and I'm already well-versed in the recently launched digital ACT. Through my own continuing education, I've achieved multiple perfect scores in every format of these tests.

Over the past two decades I've honed my unique approach to one-on-one teaching as I've worked with and learned the methods of Princeton Review, Varsity Tutors, Studypoint, and several boutique companies here in Los Angeles. Today, I primarily offer my services independently through Price Tutors, although I still maintain relationships with a small handful of high-end local prep companies. I've worked successfully with more than 400 individual students and I can honestly tell you that I am one of the most experienced and successful test prep tutors in the country. For references, recent results, and more info, just email me at mike@pricetutors.com or use the Contact form provided here.

I am also throughly experienced in many of the most popular AP courses, a wide variety of high school courses, and virtually all elementary and middle school curricula. For some niche subjects, I have two colleagues that I've worked with for more than a decade, both of whom offer complementary skill sets that allow us to cover almost any topic.
